Vegas pro is a good beginner-intermediate software for editing.

Adobe premiere and after effects is a good intermediate-high skill level editing software. I recommend it to people who only know how to edit since the software is more complicated than VEGAS pro but has a lot more neat stuff you can do.

I've been using Vegas Pro for the last 13-14 years. Besides the random ass crashing and drops in FPS while previewing anything in higher than shit quality its a good program. Personally I prefer AVID but that's not gonna happen.
