Danger 729
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 4GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 vs AMD Radeon R9 380 4GB GDDR5 PCIe 3.0 x16 what one is better Quote Link to comment https://olympus-entertainment.com/topic/6940-graphics-card/
Guest
The 380 is on a level playing field with the 970. It's a no-brainer. It's definitely a better choice than the 960 Quote Link to comment https://olympus-entertainment.com/topic/6940-graphics-card/#findComment-71444
grizzlybear 133
just sayin if you want arma to run faster you want to look at upgrading your CPU not you GPU. Quote Link to comment https://olympus-entertainment.com/topic/6940-graphics-card/#findComment-71446

Also, it's worth noting that once you're at the 970/380 level of graphics card, RAM actually makes a significant difference. like, from 48 to 64 makes more of a difference than going from the 970 to the 980. Have a buddy who I gave my 970 too, prior he had 2 680's in SLI. He saw a small 5FPS boost IF that. He went from 48GB 2333Mhz to 64GB, and he got 10-12 FPS. I didn't realize RAM had that much of an impact until I saw it for myself. Quote Link to comment https://olympus-entertainment.com/topic/6940-graphics-card/#findComment-71448

But yeah, instead of going CPU and then into a GPU, it might be worth it to invest in some RAM sticks before getting a new GPU. Definitely cheaper by a massive margin. I wouldn't take my word for it though, this helped one person's machine who has high end CPU and GPU already. Your mileage may vary. Guest
That build will have absolutely no problems with ArmA, assuming you also have 8GB+ RAM. Quote Link to comment https://olympus-entertainment.com/topic/6940-graphics-card/#findComment-71453

Guest
Then you're solid. I run a similar build with an i7-4790k @4.0GHz GTX 980 SC 16GB 1600MHz RAM. 1TB SSD. The 980 is just a small step above the R9 380, and our processors are essentially the same speed. Your RAM is probably DDR4 though I'd hope, which means you'll get quite a bit more performance out of your RAM. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, that may go a long way in ArmA but who knows. Dustin87 864
I know its older and less power effecient but i think the 290 and 290x are still outperforming the 380 and just below the 970 for dirt ass cheap if you can get one of those. I have the same setup although I have a 980 FTW edition. Slightly faster and I've noticed a drop in frames considerably since last week. I have dropped at least 10 frames minimum and worse in towns. How is yours performing? Quote Link to comment https://olympus-entertainment.com/topic/6940-graphics-card/#findComment-71499

Last thing I did was install the newest NVIDIA driver via geforce experience. Noticed a considerable drop in performance and reverted to the previous one via device manager. I no longer get 60FPS outside of the cities. Now it ranges from 40-45FPS. Kavala now gets 28-32FPS from 40-45 it used to before. I was thinking of doing a clean install of the drivers but at this point I don't know what else it could be.
