This is the most common and simple, user friendly thing you can use. In my opinion you can do everything you need with this.

Sony Vegas is good for the more experienced editing, you can do more with it but it is more confusing  to use.

If you're just trying to snip video clips from longer records, use VLC Media Player. It's one of the best playback software available, and always you to clip videos (useful for trimming off the ends of an RDM video, cutting a clip for compensation, clipping out damning evidence, etc.)
