Since you're unlikely to get an informative answer I'll put the pros and cons, we're interested in the prospect and probed around prior to December regarding setup, tooling, etc.

Pros:

  • Popular on social media
  • New playerbase - Console Andys
  • Economy reset
  • Modding is built into the engine
  • Boundless opportunity for creativity on map, models, mechanics
  • Lots of freely usable content under APL-SA 'Free use and modification'
  • Better default UI
  • Better Tooling/Debugging
  • Ability to completely reset the board for how we handle factions, staff, etc.
  • Start on a fresher framework or custom build our own (Tonic 🧑‍🦼)

Cons:

  • No monetization policy - Cannot even make skins as a donor option
  • Hit registration
  • More DayZ like combat (I personally like it since it's not shit like DayZ just similar)
  • Cheats existent
    • Would require familiarization + extensive work to start the back and forth that is dealing with it
  • Minimal Battlemetrics support ^
  • Lack of familiarization for the entire team regarding language, tooling
  • Slots limited to 128

I would say that we're interested in it but there is more interest in engaging with the server we currently have. Things are generally stable enough to put the effort into branching out but there are major redflags by BI within the Cons section.

Perfect statement honestly^^

TLDR Been interested since the game came out in 2022, looked more into it when it went into 1.0 in 2023. As a firm believer of the Arma 4 wave, reforger would of been the smarter move to start with. But these last 2-3 years of looking into the game and making some development attempts with the team, essentially the results are what Mako said. We'd have to neglect the Arma 3 server almost entirely to get a good, successful project quickly up and running and thats something in this day and age of Arma we cannot afford to do, especially for a game thats just a "stepping stone" to the overall goal. But, that doesnt mean we wont keep our hands in that pot and work on it, just means it isnt our #1 priority currently until we master the essentials needed, just like we mastered Arma 3. We wouldnt want to throw something up just for shits and giggles, especially if it cant compare to the quality of what we produce now. Shit, we got the most stacked "Vanilla" based server on the entirety of this game. Don't worry though, we arent out of the game for Reforger fully yet 😉

Arma 4 comes out in 2 years, by the time the Olympus team has finally settled in and made the server on reforged solid and enjoyable it would be less than a year until arma 4 comes out, it wouldn’t make a whole lot of sense to put 2 years into a game just for everyone to switch to arma 4 and have to restart from scratch again. I think anyone sensible would agree that putting in 2 years of development into a game just to then turn around and restart all over again wouldn’t make much sense. As soon as arma 4 comes out reforger will lost most of its player base especially if arma 4 releases for console.

I have a strong feeling the gameplay of Arma 4 will be nothing like Arma 3. I generally see more negatives than positives. Depending on which direction Olympus goes, Altis Life may not be the same. It was fresh in 2015 but in 2026 it might be like trying to put makeup on a dead corpse.
