  1. If you're at work, the firewall is probably blocking the port/hostname. Edit: What Hades said.
  2. Hello Older Steve
  3. Get 'em Ham.

  5. Quoted for agreement. In regards to this "DREW", I will be investigating into the identity of this person. I hold my medics to a high standard and correct/remove what I can. Situations like this need to be brought to my attention via a private message on here, or a player report which will be forwarded to me. Being R&R doesn't give you a license to show your ass and if ANY R&R member does so, I want to know about it ASAP. That said, please be sure to provide proof.
  6. Also, your reply was hidden as it wasn't relevant to the conversation. This is about features and staff, not the financial situation or requirements of the community. However it has been un-hidden just for you.
  7. You are correct in your math of us having 12 staff members. That is 5 admins, 5 moderators, 1 designer and 1 developer. Of the moderators, 3 are still on probation/training (myself included, don't let the Admin tag fool you). Our designer and developer are not involved in day to day operations and some of our staff have taken a step back due to reasons that don't need to be discussed. That said, we have a large staff to cover when other staff needs to step back for whatever reason. As for the rules, they are what they are because of feedback from the community. People complain about one thing or another, so a rule is modified or added. People abuse rules, they get modified and eventually you end up with a set of rules that are black and white down to the letter. Personally, Mecca isn't something to worry about. They are simply another community starting up and if what Mecca offers is what people want, well bye bye. I can't speak for everyone, but I had to submit for staff TWICE and waited a total of 18 weeks before my application was mentioned to me, even then I had a couple weeks before I was talked to again. There was a lull on processing of applications in addition to once you apply, you are watched by all of us to see how you behave in game and on the forums. Staff positions are not something freely as we work together and if you (not your specifically) aren't a team player, then you won't fit in very well. If you can't handle stressful situations, then you won't work out as a staff member. Its more than just "I've been here a long time and I want to help, make me staff."
  8. That would be getting personal information including but not limited to a full name, DoB and possibly an address of a MINOR, which potentially is illegal in most countries. Just thought I'd point that out.
  9. The number one thing I am seeing in this thread are comments like the following: We need more staff. We need more developers. We want more features. What I am NOT seeing are people OFFERING to help. As it has been stated multiple times in this thread, one does not simply become a developer or a staff member. There have been other developers in the past and they are all but gone because as it was also stated "people are people." Not everyone wants to take the hard road and WORK to make something for our community, they'd rather copy/paste it and claim it as their own. That is not Olympus, we do not steal from other communities. We have been burned and it takes time for burns to heal and until someone is willing to step up and say "I'd like to help, can I put together a little package of code that would let Olympus do <insert concept>?" then why should we reach out and ask? This is a community, which means everyone should be willing to help out and most people do. The same goes for adding the the pool of staff. Anyone may apply for a staff position, provided that you meet the requirements. The problem is, no one wants to give up being in a gang or wants to dedicate the time to apply and wait while your application is evaluated. People want power and in most cases, they abuse it. I'm sure it would be amazing to have more staff but my own personal opinion, there are very few people that I would trust with the ability to issue bans, respond to comp requests and be entrusted with what staff are given. As for developing new features for the community, we have Poseidon. Poseidon has a life that he has to keep a handle on besides just writing code for us. Not everyone can sit at their screen all day, people have lives that take priority. New features are planned, however new features are useless if existing features don't work properly. Point proven, Poseidon is working on fixing the issues with housing, who doesn't want a house? I know that this post is coming across as me essentially saying to stop your bitching and I apologize for that, however I can easily count the number of times that someone has publicly offered to help and the times that someone has said they're going to put something together even if it isn't going to be used. Last thing before I quit ranting, new players. This is talked about constantly, how new players are run off the servers because it is so hard to get a foot in the door. Try not robbing them blind? Instead of robbing someone new.. assign a member of your gang (maybe the new guy... because FNG) to go with the new person. Their job? Watch them, perhaps protect them and after the run is over, a "protection fee" is paid out. This benefits all parties, the new players gets their money, the FNG of your gang has to deal with being the FNG and you guys get money. Robbing people blind only pushes people away and no one wants people to leave. Negative side of my post finished, there are some cool features on the list that would be amazing to have on Olympus. Personally I think it would be cool to have the oil rigs and underwater oil cartel, which would give a whole new dynamic for civ/civ and civ/cop interactions. Plus the APD boats could be used more often as that would be yet another thing on the water that could be patrolled. Same with the prestige system, that way you have donator perks but those that can't afford to donate can still get some cool items with the large amounts of money.
  10. This isn't real life, its a game where people take advantage of EVERYTHING. Something like having high caliber weaponry available as a LEGAL option will be abused very quickly unless it comes with a steep penalty.
  11. If this were a thing, I'd advocate for making all charges doubled when you have the license. Meaning if you have the license and you shoot someone, it counts as a double manslaughter instead of a single. Thought behind that, if you are going to purchase these higher caliber weapons and body armor, you should be held to a higher standard. If you are attacked on a run, flee and call the police. If you kill someone, you'd better have a good and legitimate reason. "I killed someone in self defense" APD text messages do not constitute as a good reason by the way.
  12. Sigh...
  13. Can we be on a team?
  14. What does a partnership get you exactly?
  15. How about you guys don't argue on my thread.
  16. Thor's not here.

  18. For those that don't know me, I'm John McClane (formerly), Head Coordinator for the Olympus Rescue and Recovery. After a long stint under this name (Stretching back to June 2014) I have decided to shorten my name to what it is now, Odin. Feel free to message me for any R&R issues, same as before, just be aware of the name change.
