@ Pseudonym   the truth is manned aircraft is a dying medium of war.  There's no real reason to have it anymore.  The only reason we still humor it is when people start saying it out loud, it will quickly become apparently the US has far too many big expensive targets and our military is entirely designed to fight a war 80 years ago, upgraded or not.

Not really though.  Israel has show air superiority.   They would never stay up in the sky long enough or travel far enough to catch a SAM battery.   Planes are a dead medium in modern warfare.  We just keep them because they're scary, but nobody's really out here trying to risk aircraft to a medium that can take them down for 1/100th the cost.  

It's one thing to bomb Iran in a surprise attack.  Once anti-air is up, they're never entering Iranian airspace.   Losing even one to Iran is a huge morale loss, not to mention the the wreckage would be completely reverse engineered in Moscow within a week of crashing.  The US wouldn't allow that level of risk to the f35, which is the only aircraft with strong enough stealth characteristics to potentially survive.  

If we start a fight with Iran, that involves any amount of boots on the grounds, we're in for another Vietnam.  Despite the propaganda we are fed 24/7, Iran's military tech is far ahead of us in some fields.  The Shahed has proven to be far more of an effective weapon for russia than anything else they've kicked at Ukraine.

We would beat Iran... but the victory would taste as bitter as defeat.
