First thing you want to do is do an easy such as peaches or apples until you can afford a boxtruck.. thenyou probably want to join a starter gang... There are plenty that will internally accept anyone... Then do some weed/copper or other safe run until you have some decent cash... Then once you get the hang of things you can decide how you want to play the server (whether it be cop, medics, cartels, vigi, rebels or a mixture of all...
