Upgrading CPU for better fps

So I currently have a ASUS geforce GTX 1080 turbo paired with the i5 7500, I'm currently thinking of upgrading to an i7 k series for a boost in fps but Im not sure if I will see that big of a boost basically seeing what you guys have to say.

Windows 10 home

525gb ssd

16 gb ram

i5 7500

Gigabyte H270-gaming 3

and 650w 80+ EVGA PSU

I upgraded to a 7700K last month and my FPS in Kavala tripled.  It's an extremely well valued CPU- it has high performance and relatively low cost for the performance.

I would go for the i7, i get around 50+ frames in Kavala on 2160p

I have an i7-8700k, of course this will require you to get a new motherboard / RAM. I have heard very good things about the i7-7700k aswell though.

But I run 60 fps on full ultra, full shadows, full sky, at 8km view distance / 8km object distance, while constantly recording without any frame loss.

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4 16GB

CPU Cooler:Corsair H50 Liquid Cooler

I forget what my motherboard is, but remember this: If you are upgrading to an I7 you need to make sure your motherboard can handle that, and DDR4 RAM. Upgrading to an i7 is always more expensive than just getting a new CPU, because (at least in my case) you also need to get a new motherboard and RAM to support it.

I would recommend getting water cooling if you plan on overclocking because you can overclock this thing to 5.0GHz easily. But I've had a hyper 212 evo on mine for over a month now and my temps are perfect.

If you don't have an i7 right now yes you will. i7 and up processors only work with DDR4 RAM. On top of this, DDR4 RAM does not fit into DDR3 RAM slots, which is why it will be likely you will need to get a higher end motherboard, which can cost you $170.00+

If you are positive you have ddr4 ram now then you should be fine.

Yep. Like Cuzzi said with those specs you should only need to upgrade to processor. Like I said, 7700K is best value from my experience.

Also look for combo deals on newegg or amazon. You can usually get a processor + motherboard with a discount.

He will need both a new motherboard if getting the 8700k it's a LGA1151 (300series) socket vs his LGA1151 socket

Not true. DDR4 ram relies on CPU socket LGA1151. You can get i7s in literally any other processor socket. i7-4790k, for example, does not require DDR4 ram
