During my first clinical with the local fire department I was on the scene of a GSW shortly after it happened. I was standing a foot away ready to do CPR on a guy bleeding out on the side walk and his blood was pooling next to my boot. That will be a memory I will never forget. Even if/when I do join the field of EMS that memory is going to stick with me.

My first clinical in the ER I had to help hold a 600 pound dudes fat rolls so the nurse could get a catheter in. That was fun..

I want to become an EMT IV - Basically an advanced EMT. It would be cool to work in the back of an ambulance or become a firefighter. I love the adrenaline rush of responding to calls. I might be hooked after that GSW I was a part of the other night. Eye opening experience for sure.

So thankful I passed exam 5, especially sense all the bull shit that happened while I was trying to focus on studying. I would have murdered someone in this community if I would have failed because of stupid Olympus drama.

OH SHIT! That's hard as fuck. Probably a tad harder than my summer chemistry

Maybe, I just hate that every test is "do or die". Less than a 70% on any test and its an automatic fail for the entire class :/
Just have to keep grinding. One test at a time.
-
That's really fucking rough. Damn.

We were talking about insect and spider bites/stings in my class today and then when I was doing one of my labs on anaphylaxis a fucking spider decided to bite me in the leg. My intructor thought it was cool and showed the rest of the class haha. What are the fucking chances..
-
That feeling when you take a test and weren't completely sure how you did..
If I get less than a 70% its an automatic fail for the course. Tests mean a lot more when each one is a "do or die situation". The fun thing about having a Paramedic as my instructor means that the test won't be graded for at least 3 days, which means I'll be stirring on this shit until I find out my grade. -___-

So its official. After being thrown to the curb for no fucking reason I have decided leave the staff for good. This time on my own terms. The staff has some leadership issues that they need to straighten out hopefully sooner than later.

Never been in an Emergency room in my life.. Should be interesting doing my first clinical in the ER today. Trying to prepare myself mentally for the fucked up shit I may see.

It's one of the bigger Trauma hospitals in Colorado. I imagine It may be a little more intense than a kid with a broken wrist but who knows?
I feel like I'm jumping into the deep end of the pool on the first day. Maybe that is a good thing haha. I'm sure when it's over I'll have a shit ton more respect for @Peter Long.

Anyone in this community a current or former health care professional? How long did it take you until you were proficient at reading peoples blood pressure?

If the vein on their forehead is popping out their blood pressure is high.

Lol, thanks for the tip Muth. I'm not bad at taking it, just takes a few tries to figure out how to slowly bleed off the air and get an accurate reading. The stethoscopes that they gave our class are not the best quality. Going to be a huge pain in the ass when I'm in the back of an ambulance trying to do it haha.

A lot of cities use lifepacks which do auto BPs but you can always practice on family and to double check yourself you can try palpating the BP. While the cuff is inflated just go down to the radial pulse and once you feel the pulse come back that is going to be your systolic number, no diastolic number when palpating.

... You watched the Indy 500 over the Monaco F1 GP? Ferrari really stuck it to Mercedes.

I did not go to the track, just watched it on TV. And yes I did watch the Indy 500 and not the Monaco F1 race because I live in America, not Europe. ^__^

Seriously though, another 2 ft and he would have been dead. I love Indy car racing because they go stupid fast but there will be at least another fatality in the near future even though those cars are designed really well.
