Developer Learning Sessions

Hello Olympus Community members,

We have seen a growing amount of questions and interest in joining the development team, questions about how to get started, and just normal questions about SQF (the code which Arma's engine runs off of) so we have decided to bring back the community learning sessions (originally done by Jesse) for a second try.

For any community members that want to learn SQF or have an interest in how we make our mission, there will be a pre-requisite meeting on Monday, 11/12/2018 @ 4:30 PM EST. We will go over how we plan to run these sessions and then add you to the private message that will list the weekly meeting times. It is crucial that you come to this meeting if you want to be apart of these sessions because we will be going over the basics of SQF and will be setting up a directory in which future sessions will be based off of.

These meetings will hopefully spark some interest on some community members that wish to progress onto a staff level as a Developer but just don't know where to start as well as giving you guys some key resources as well as some contacts that can answer your questions.

If you are unable to make the first session or have any questions, feel free to shoot me a PM and I will be glad to work this out with you.

A few other things to note include:

• No prior developmental knowledge is required (but is definitely helpful)
• This is going to be most likely every week when this session is held and will be held as a "group class"
• You must attend the first session to be apart of this program and will not be allowed to join half way through
• Every session will build off of the last
• You will be given a task every week after a session to give you a chance to show off your knowledge.
• You must have discord & teamspeak downloaded before coming to this meeting

Personally for me, Jesse had this idea and was able to teach me practically everything I needed in order to be more independent on SQF and I want to reach out to the community so I can help you guys in the same way I learned. I did have a background in a few other languages, but some of my companions didn't and I have seen them grow just as far with no prior knowledge! (Im talkin to you @DashToxic)

Note: We have removed the "Junior Developer" role from our staff team, these sessions are in an attempt to get you prepared to take  a developer evaluation if you wish to go this path.

SQF is Arma's code it may or may not be similar to what you've used

If you know C++ its similar in many ways. Bit of a learning curve but after that, its simple. Database related scripting
