On 7/21/2023 at 7:13 PM, Snake said:Perhaps we make that be a SGT+ decision point. Anything at all that makes that grind less intensely scary.
I was having so much fun playing vig until I found out about party to a crime. If any of my friends shoot at cops I could lose all my hard work over it - it’s not a fair charge and needs removedThree things.
- Any cop lowering a tier just for party to a crime is bitchmade, I'd say find the cop's Sgt or Lt on the CoC and message them the video as it's not IA worthy but it is a breach of general decorum (or at least it was when I was active). But keep in mind that it's situational, if the vigi is driving the getaway car in a fight where cops were tased/taken, or is involved in an event like pharma that's a whole different story. There's wrong place - wrong time, then there's doing a support function that would be done by someone on the crew regardless. There's also a huge disdain for vigis who help robbery crews, even just pulling security becomes unbalanced due to your taser.
- Having it be a Sgt + authority would effectively take it off the table. More often than not the highest ranking officer on the server is a Cpl, unless we allow cops to seize your shit while you're offline through Life Control (never happening) it's just not viable. And more often than not the decision is solid, I have 1300 cop hours and nowadays play about 8-12 a month. Maybe it's the times I play or how I run my patrols, but in 5 years as an active APD officer from 2017-2022 (2 as Cpl + 1 as FTO) I've never seen these great injustices firsthand.
- The first line of the vigi rules is that they're not above the law or server rules. As a vigi you can still play with friends, have fun, and do illegal stuff, but use your brain and know when to walk away. I speak for about 70% of the APD when I say you don't need to be a choir boy, but you do need to make choices that will protect what you've earned. There's a difference between a vigi doing an illegal run where they just drive away and a vigi helping others rob legal runs, do pharmaceuticals or similar events. You know the grind and often for the APD perception is reality, if you know it looks sketchy sit it out and go do something else.
I'm not a vigi, but I can appreciate that you guys do a lot of work for it. Just like most Cpls having 300+ hours shouldn't shield them from disciplinary action for sketchy shit, tier 3+ shouldn't be an aegis from being held accountable for your actions. If you're courteous to the APD when they interact with you, build name recognition, and don't engage in unethical conduct your chances of facing an arbitrary punishment plummet.
The other side is I'll openly admit to ripping vigis for petty stuff after they had built up a reputation for following the APD to steal bounties, going to support when they were in the wrong and being belligerent dicks. There was a vigi who would follow the APD around in Kav and try to engage everyone the APD didn't go code 3 or chose to let go. You bet your ass the day I caught him with a manslaughter I seized his shit without a second thought.
Perhaps an (admittedly) RP-heavy middle ground could be mandatory reporting on vigilante seizures and reductions past tier 3. When seizing or reducing a vigi license officers would need to fill out a quick google form with the IGN (or PID if they choose to provide it) of the vigilante, a justification for the seizure (immune from meta e.g. subject has a history of impeding the APD would be a valid reason) and supporting documents if they exist. Not worth much, but if the vigi feels it's unfair they could request a copy of the report and appeal it with staff and it would make it easier for staff and SAPD to see if there was a pattern of an individual being targeted or certain officers forgoing RP/discretion.

43 minutes ago, SPBojo said:The way it was explained was "You open it and have to hold it on x for 5 seconds" so for the second question id assume it would be 5 seconds in one go as there was no mention of it being 5 seconds total regardless of downtime. Id also assume with this the radar feature as a whole will prob get benched / fixed / this system will have better radar in general.
Oh yeah, the current radar sucks so having you hold it on for 5 as it currently is would be as good as nothing.
On that note, we'll have to see it implemented to see how it works but I think a priori it should be 2 seconds or instant speed but longer hold for name. As is, by the time the thing gives you a name you'd be close enough to have it anyways.

Quick question on the ALPR, does "5 seconds to open" mean from scrollwheel it will take 5 seconds to start capturing or it will take a full 5 seconds from first contact to showing the information?
Also on that note, the current radar function through shift L barely works in the sense that getting a hit is very rng based. Will you have to maintain ALPR contact for 5 seconds before the information appears?

This could be a cool dynamic for rank progression TBH.
Corporals get access to slick cars or slicktops with the bullbar, being able to use unmarked cars outside of undercover status if they have a police furniture on them, etc.

With the addition of the black PO7 do you think it would be doable to just make the APD PO7 the black one and keep the vigi/civ version unchanged?
The weapon class name is a cool idea but I think with pistols at least a visual ID system in line with the current one (black = cop gun) would be much easier to work with.

Just seems.... contradictory.
Honestly the bank is hella unbalanced and I don't respond to them anymore. If the gallery is similar I think it'll become bank lite.
The burglaries look fun but unless there's a notification to the APD it's free money with zero risk and the time to use bolt cutters, open a crate and dip is so short it's a guaranteed win. The boat one I'm least excited about, you can't taze an NPC so POs are fucked and boats have autopilot anyways so until the NPC is killed or the engine is disabled it's impossible to stop it, boats also have a tendency to sink when you shoot them enough or they hit anything so the chances of a bout full of drugs being recoverable are low.

I ran a test @100m in the editor a while ago.
It takes one more shot of 6.5 from a standard MX and 2 more shots from a sting, negligible at the distance most engagements happen on Olympus.

2 hours ago, Mako said:There are currently no plans to introduce uniforms outside of the current palette especially considering the vests you're referencing are T1
Why tho?
If we're getting technical there's nothing preventing us from scripting the black carrier lite down to be T2 or making the green or tan vest T2. Also the current color palette sucks and IMO the PO and uniforms are plain ugly. I've talked with design staff a bunch about this and new good looking designs are constantly shot down by a SAPD that hates change.
If we're losing our vests that distinguish us and look cool because scripting is too hard I don't see why we shouldn't get some uniforms that do the same.

Not sure what bug you’re referring to though, because if the vest was bugged, not sure why we would have just changed it for corps.
albeit this was a long ass time ago and my memory isn’t great, but we definitely changed it from requests and not for a temp purpose.
Armed planes had come along and were killing cops left and right, turns out t3 vests could withstand a great deal more armed plane shots but were almost indistinguishable on the ground e.g. 3 7.62 to kill instead of 2 so they were adopted.
I was a cop when that change happened and there was tons of controversy around it then too, we survived with t2 vests in the past but I wish the SAPD were honest (traded corp vests for the mk18) instead of coming up with a half baked excuse (if t2 was bugged why did only corps get it?) I don't have too much of an issue with the nerfs except lethal split but I just with the current SAPD was honest with us about them.

@ThatNerdyGuy
The blue APD vest works on POs because POs get a blue shirt as shown here
Now Imagine putting that on corps with the red/yellow/black shirts it looks retarded

Options from best to worst:- Script a new carrier lite that is armor level 2 for corps+
- Design the apd vest to at least be black or something
- Use another armor level 2 vest from arma
I'm fine with the worse vest and less armor. All the APD nerfs I think they are pretty fair as the APD is strong, but just dont make my drip game weak.I'd take a downgrade for an all tan or tan and green uniform, there are tan and green vests and IMO it would still keep Corporal distinctive enough from POs.

1 hour ago, Zeuse said:I understand the money reduction as cops are making way too much money, but for something as small as the T3 vests which only change the amount of shots you can take by 1 bullet by 1 for 6.5 and below isn't going to dramatically change situations. But perhaps Sergeants could be given T3 vests considering T4 is only +1 shot from T3 from some guns (haven't tested a lot for T4) and we could see how that changes situations also? Doesn't really make sense having 0 tier gap between PO and CPL but 2 tier gap eith CPL and SGT, and not really as if Staff SGTs play all that often so I don't really think it makes a difference them keeping T3.
As you can see by the changelogs and round tables in the past whenever APD nerfs come around the only people who get routinely shafted are junior APD while seniors get more with no major nerfs.
They're the ones who go to the negotiating table, so, when civ council brings up big nerfs in exchange for them getting new toys they don't think twice because they have no skin in the game. They can throw us under the bus all day because the changes never affect them negatively.
The only way to fix this would be to unionize the Jr APD and demand a seat at the table with strikes or slowdowns as a consequence. but alas this is just a video game, we're all expendable in the eyes of the seniors if we stir up trouble, and the SAPD won't stop looking out for themselves and begin looking after their people unless they're forced into it. Which will never happen.

Can an Sr APD person please explain the allure of making tasers spangle?
It seems like one of those things that would inadvertently kill a lot of civilians and make fights in places like hospital rocks, buildings and near water absolutely terrible. The variation of that script I've seen incapacitated only for 5 seconds and unless every cop has lethal force on hand for situations where a 5 second spangle taser isn't viable it's just aids. This just seems like one of those things someone said "Hey that looks cool, let's try it" without considering it it's even necessary.

From what I was told the APD is still independent from civ council and ultimately answers only to senior staff/ Ares, this was closer to warning them out of courtesy and asking for feedback than a legally binding vote.

The new anti cheat is super aggressive, sometimes when I access my garage I get kicked for "script restriction 2" and when cops escort sometimes we get kicked for "script restriction 17"

Will we ever get a vest clipping fix on the APD uniforms for dep/PO?
-
I get that cop/medic was aids but I think it removing it wasnt the answer to abuse. Now the only point of contact is throught RnR dispatch or physically speaking to the medic but that makes getting a hold of medics during active situations harder and greatly reduces our capabilities as our messages can be easily lost during a high revive time.

I'm going to be real, the ERT idea was good but whoever thought of organizing it like this was smoking crack.
People have been clamoring for Cpls to have the Type 115 and for POs to lose the CMR, the ERT license would have been great for that : removing the CMR from non-ERT POs, giving ERT POs the tier 3, and adding the vintage gear shop to ERT Corporals.
Even then, the price of the licence and the equipment should have been revisited to be higher, and the things each rank has access to should have been more limited because suppressors at the Corporal level make no sense and you can see that SAPD were going to benefit more than anyone else. Another interesting idea would have been giving Corporals some modified armor for pushing big fights (think up-armored pickup) and maybe access to the Orca outside federal events instead of a papier maché heli with flares.
Like often happens, an idea that could have made the Jr APD stronger while keeping things balanced was utterly mismanaged because some seniors couldn't resist the idea of giving themselves cheap new toys and buffing their ranks at the detriment of the rest of the server and the faction.
Make no qualms about it; within a week all SAPD would be running around with that shit leading to an inevitable nerf or removal, and senior is an utter money printer to the extent that some of the richest players on the server are career APD making millions a day with expenses of a few 100k.
